Position Overview

We are looking for a skilled Real World Evidence Data Scientist who will be responsible for generating robust Real World Evidence through advanced research methodologies and creative analytical approaches within the clinical trials space. As an integral member of our Scientific Issues team, you will play a foundational role in shaping how arenaflex addresses critical business questions through data-driven insights.

This position reports directly to the Executive Director of Clinical Data Science and offers a competitive hourly rate of $27/hour with flexible remote work arrangements. The ideal candidate will have the ability to influence both internal and external decision-making processes through the use of innovative data science techniques and state-of-the-art technology platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Data Mining and Preparation: Mine raw datasets to deliver normalized, analysis-ready patient cohorts from in-house data resources or licensed platforms. Analyze and interpret results to identify meaningful patterns and trends that inform research strategies and business decisions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with various members of the arenaflex Clinical Trial team to deliver meaningful insights from real-world, clinical, and other data sources to support biopharmaceutical RWE and clinical trial requests. This includes research on unmet medical needs, safety and efficacy of treatments in specific disease states, treatment patterns, healthcare economic burden, and cost-effectiveness modeling.

Data Management and Storage: Clean, transform, and store data into a coordinated data lake infrastructure for future analysis and broader team utilization, ensuring data integrity, accessibility, and compliance with industry standards.

Statistical Analysis and Modeling: Perform data mining and statistical analysis to analyze RWE/Real World Data (RWD) and discover new insights regarding patient populations and treatment outcomes, utilizing advanced epidemiological and statistical methodologies.

Capability Development: Support the development of real-world data, analysis, and platform capabilities by applying advanced analytics and tools to address scientific inquiries from biopharmaceutical organizations, contributing to arenaflex's thought leadership in the industry.

Research Study Design: Collaborate on the design and execution of outcomes research studies, ensuring methodological rigor and scientific validity of all research outputs.

Quality Assurance: Ensure high-quality, rigorous, and readily interpretable outputs from RWE reviews and investigations, maintaining the highest standards of scientific excellence and regulatory compliance.

Reporting and Visualization: Build dashboards, analyses, and comprehensive reports for both internal and external stakeholders, translating complex data into actionable business insights.

Vendor Evaluation: Conduct due diligence on new real-world data providers and vendors, driving RWD quality assessments to inform project decisions and ensure the integrity of research findings.

Essential Qualifications

Technical Proficiency: Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience with programming languages such as R, Python, or SQL, demonstrating strong coding abilities and data manipulation skills.

Statistical Expertise: Proven experience designing and executing robust and reproducible statistical analyses in the context of epidemiology and observational research with healthcare data, including experience working with large-scale datasets.

Statistical Methods Knowledge: Solid understanding of common statistical testing methodologies including generalized linear models, classification and regression, decision trees, unsupervised learning, time series analysis, and survival analysis.

Big Data Experience: Demonstrated experience processing large datasets from multiple data sources, with the ability to handle data at scale efficiently.

Healthcare Data Compliance: Experience handling protected patient health information (PHI) with strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and other privacy requirements.

Business Intelligence Tools: Proficiency in at least one of the following: Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, Spotfire, or other BI visualization tools for creating compelling data visualizations and reports.

Preferred Qualifications

Healthcare Data Systems: Expertise in EMR/Health IT systems, disease registries, and insurance claims databases, with a deep understanding of healthcare data ecosystems.

Clinical Data Standards: Proficiency in clinical data standards, clinical terminologies, and controlled vocabularies used in healthcare data and ontologies, including ICD-9/10 and ReadCode classifications.

Regulatory Knowledge: Experience in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and/or regulatory compliance guidelines for real-world evidence studies or clinical trials, including ISO standards, MDD/MDR, and CFR requirements.

Alternative Data Sources: Experience working with alternative data sources and alternative methods for clinical data collection, particularly those enabled by technology platforms and digital health solutions.

Advanced Analytics: Experience with trial design, Bayesian modeling, sequential data analysis, and computational statistics, demonstrating familiarity with cutting-edge statistical approaches.

Continuous Learning: Strong understanding of statistical and machine learning techniques, with the ability to independently pursue self-learning of both technical and non-technical skills to stay current with industry developments.
