About This Role: Ramp Agent (Customer Service Specialist)

As a Ramp Agent at arenaflex, you'll play a critical role in our ground operations, serving as the backbone of our flight operations. Your work ensures that luggage, mail, and cargo are handled with the utmost care and precision, guaranteeing that our passengers' belongings arrive safely and on time. This is an entry-level position with significant potential for advancement – many of our managers and supervisors started in exactly this role, rising through the ranks thanks to our robust mentorship programs and commitment to promoting from within.

It's important to note that this role is physically demanding and takes place in a dynamic airport environment. You'll be on your feet for extended periods, performing repetitive tasks, and working in various weather conditions. However, if you thrive in a fast-paced environment and take pride in doing essential work that keeps the world moving, this is the perfect opportunity for you.

Key Responsibilities

Your daily duties as a Ramp Agent will include (but not be limited to):

  • Safe Lifting and Loading: Safely lift, load, dump, and transport luggage, mail, and cargo to and from aircraft. You'll be handling items weighing up to 50-70 pounds, so physical strength and proper lifting techniques are essential.

  • Aircraft Direction: Responsible for timely connections by directing incoming and outgoing aircraft from gate positions. You'll work closely with pilots and air traffic control to ensure smooth aircraft movement on the tarmac.

  • Cargo Protection: Protect freight, items, and mail from damage, loss, and weather exposure. Attention to detail is crucial in ensuring every piece of cargo reaches its destination in perfect condition.

  • Ground Equipment Operation: Safely drive and operate ground equipment including belt loaders, tow tractors, and pull vehicles in congested areas. Training will be provided for all equipment operation.

  • Technology Utilization: Work with baggage scanners and computer systems to ensure items are routed accurately to their final destinations. Technical proficiency and accuracy are key.

  • Weather Adaptation: Perform duties in various weather conditions including heat, rain, snow, and cold. arenaflex is committed to safety, and you'll be trained to work comfortably in all environments.

  • Security Compliance: Practice security-conscious behaviors in every operational process and procedure, maintaining vigilance and adhering to all safety protocols.

Work Schedule and Flexibility

We understand that life needs to fit with work. As such, scheduling for this position is based on operational requirements, and shifts can range from early morning to late evening. Each airport station has its own unique flight schedule, ensuring variety in your workday. You'll work between 20 and 40 hours per week depending on your status and the operational needs of the Grand Rapids station. This position offers valuable flexibility while providing full-time employment opportunities for those who seek it.

What You Need to Succeed: Minimum Qualifications

At arenaflex, we look for candidates who are committed to safety, embrace diversity, and are ready to contribute to our team from day one. The following are the minimum requirements for this position:

  • Safety First Mindset: You must consistently prioritize the safety and security of yourself, others, and personal information. Safety isn't just a priority – it's a value that guides every decision you make.

  • Diversity and Inclusion: Embrace diverse people, thinking, and styles. arenaflex celebrates differences and believes that diverse teams make us stronger.

  • Valid Driver's License: A valid driver's license is required as you'll need to operate ground equipment and potentially transport materials between locations.

  • Language Proficiency: Must be fluent in English, both written and verbal, to effectively communicate with team members, pilots, and customers.

  • PPE Compliance: Must be willing to wear company-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hearing protection, safety-toe footwear, protective headwear (bump cap or hard hat), and high-visibility safety clothing. Appropriate accommodations may be available for those with alternative needs.

  • Physical Capability: Must be able to perform physical tasks including bending, lifting, standing, and walking for extended periods. The ability to lift 50-70 pounds regularly is required.

Preferred Qualifications (Bonus Points!)

While not required, the following qualifications will make you an even stronger candidate:
