Position Overview

As a Pharmacy Customer Service Associate at arenaflex, you will play a crucial role in delivering an exceptional shopping experience to our customers while supporting our pharmacy operations. This position requires a unique blend of customer service excellence, attention to detail, and a genuine desire to help others. You'll be the friendly face that greets customers, assists them with their healthcare needs, and ensures their visit to arenaflex is nothing short of outstanding.

In this role, you will work directly under the guidance of our licensed pharmacists and store management team. You'll be responsible for a variety of tasks that keep our pharmacy running smoothly, from registering customer purchases and processing prescriptions to maintaining inventory and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. This is a fast-paced environment where no two days are exactly alike, offering plenty of opportunities to learn and grow.

Important Note: This is an in-store position located in Illinois, USA. While we value flexibility in our workforce, this particular role requires physical presence at our retail location to effectively serve our customers and support our pharmacy team.

Key Responsibilities

As a valued member of the arenaflex team, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:


  • Exceptional Customer Service: Greet all customers and patients with warmth and enthusiasm, offering prompt assistance with products and services. Resolve customer issues and answer questions professionally to ensure a positive shopping experience every time.

  • Register Operations: Process customer purchases accurately on the designated sales register, collecting payments and providing correct change. Handle voids, returns, delays, refunds, and exchanges as needed, maintaining accuracy and efficiency throughout the transaction process.

  • Sales Assistance: Recommend items to customers and suggest complementary products to enhance their purchase. Guide customers to relevant aisles, particularly the over-the-counter walkway, to help them find what they need.

  • Pharmacy Support: Assist the pharmacist by utilizing pharmacy systems to obtain patient and medication information. Enter prescription data accurately, retrieve medications, count and pour pharmaceutical drugs, verify accuracy, and check for potential drug interactions. Help maintain efficient pharmacy workflow and scheduling.

  • Prescription Processing: Process (revise and resubmit) manual claims for third-party prescription services in a timely and efficient manner. Perform other administrative duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Director.

  • Inventory Management: Keep counters and displays clean, well-merchandised, and properly organized. Conduct inventory checks and maintain records as directed by senior management or the shift lead.

  • Stock Management: Assist with receiving, unloading, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments. Maintain awareness of company asset security procedures and report any discrepancies, including warehouse overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods.

  • Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to state and local regulations regarding controlled substances, including alcoholic beverages and tobacco products. Follow all company policies and procedures, including those related to pharmacy error prevention and quality improvement.

  • Merchandising: Build and maintain attractive displays, including promotional, seasonal, and sale merchandise. Complete resets and corrections as directed by management.

  • Food Division Support: Assist with the division of food items and proper product positioning according to company procedures. Support inventory rotation using first-in, first-out methods and restock outs.

  • Photo Center Services: Provide excellent customer service in the photo area, including digital passport photo services, banner printing, and creative machine operations. Offer special photo products to customers.

  • Online Order Fulfillment: Handle web order responsibilities, including monitoring orders in the system, picking items, and delivering orders to customers as they arrive at the store.

  • Store Maintenance: Assist with internal and external maintenance to ensure a clean, tidy, and organized store environment and appearance at all times.

  • Error Reporting: Report prescription errors to the on-duty pharmacist immediately and adhere to company policies regarding pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.

  • Professional Development: Complete all required training, skills development programs, and continuing education credits as assigned by supervisors or corporate leadership.

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:


  • Language Proficiency: Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English. (Exception: Puerto Rico location applicants may have additional language options.)

  • Education: Bachelor's degree preferred, though equivalent experience will be considered.

  • Availability: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekend hours, to meet the needs of our customers and store operations.

  • Customer Focus: Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service with a positive attitude and professional demeanor.

  • Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with customers, colleagues, and healthcare professionals.

  • Attention to Detail: Strong accuracy in handling transactions, processing prescriptions, and maintaining records.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications will give you a competitive edge:


  • Six months or more of experience in a retail customer service environment.

  • Prior experience in a pharmacy or healthcare-related setting.

  • Strong mathematical skills for accurately counting, measuring, and weighing medications.

  • Proficiency in computer systems and point-of-sale technology.

  • Knowledge of store inventory control procedures.

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification or willingness to obtain certification through our designated training program.

  • Familiarity with state and federal pharmacy regulations.
