About the Work

As a Distributed Systems Engineer at arenaflex, you'll be working on some of the most challenging and rewarding technical problems in the industry. You'll architect and build robust, scalable, and highly available distributed systems that power entertainment for millions of people worldwide. This is not your typical engineering role—this is an opportunity to make a real impact on how entertainment is created, delivered, and experienced globally.

Join One of Our Specialized Teams

Depending on your expertise and interests, you may join one of our specialized data infrastructure teams:

• Database Access Platform: Build and operate a flexible query gateway that facilitates data abstractions to work at sub-millisecond latencies while allowing arenaflex microservices to more efficiently store, consume, and manage their data. This team holds significant responsibility in enabling arenaflex microservices to meet their constantly growing and evolving data needs. We're passionate about distributed data systems technology, active in the open source community, and believe in owning what we build. We're a small team responsible for business-critical systems and committed to a culture of feedback and engineering excellence.
• Data Platform Engineering: Serve as a platform for our internal data platforms. Our shared infrastructure and tooling enable arenaflex to rapidly advance in providing cutting-edge data and analytics systems to the rest of the organization without building custom-tailored solutions for each new system. To do this, we create high-impact infrastructure, control, and coordination systems that are calibrated for the needs of running our data systems at scale. Many of our tools and systems are written in Python, making this a great team if you enjoy working in multiple languages.
• Data Development and Processing: Offer an offline self-service tiered path product to enable varied client personas across arenaflex to meet their low-latency data development and processing requirements. Enable reflection throughout complex streaming structures like Kafka and Flink. Offer a pattern-driven processing experience. Invest in operational automation, reliability, and tools for predictable data quality.
• Big Data Compute: Responsible for providing the cloud-native platform for distributed data processing at arenaflex. This team is key to batch data processing in Data Platform. It offers support for Spark, to ETL data into the petabyte-scale data warehouse and access that data using Spark and Presto/TrinoDB. It also provides sub-second latency for a specific class of questions using Druid. We're looking for exceptional talent with experience in Spark, Presto/Trino, Druid, Iceberg, and distributed database systems overall.
• Big Data Scheduling: Offers the platform for designing, orchestrating, and executing big data jobs and workflows in a self-serve way. These platforms include core services that have all ETL and ML jobs running on Big Data Systems at arenaflex. These fully distributed systems are constantly evolving for arenaflex scale with best-in-class technology. We're moving towards event-driven and intelligent orchestration which would require minimal client input/intervention.

What We're Looking For

Basic Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience building large-scale distributed systems features or applications.


• Experience in the design and development of RESTful web services.


• Experience building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed systems.


• Proficient in Java or other object-oriented programming languages.


• Comfortable tackling multithreading challenges.


• BS in Computer Science or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with distributed data storage systems and databases.


• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).


• Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.


• Experience with stream processing frameworks such as Kafka, Flink, or similar technologies.


• Understanding of data pipeline architecture and ETL processes.


• Experience with big data technologies like Spark, Presto, Druid, or Iceberg.


• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.


• Passion for open source technologies and communities.
