Controller
Posted 2026-05-06SoLo Funds is on a mission to help the millions of Americans that live paycheck to paycheck and can’t survive a money crunch. Launched in 2018 as a unique and proprietary lending marketplace, today SoLo is the leading alternative financial solution providing the fastest loans available for borrowers and the opportunity for lenders to earn significant returns. We are a VC-funded fintech company backed by Techstars, partnered with Kiva and proudly certified as a B-Corporation.
We are seeking an experienced Controller to join our growing, fully remote finance team. Ideal candidates bring experience in mid-stage fintech, lending/payments, or financial services—and have a strong bias toward building, automating, and modernizing finance processes. You will report directly to the CFO and take full ownership of daily accounting operations, month-end close, financial reporting, and key accounting infrastructure decisions.
This role is well-suited for someone who wants to own accounting, improve systems, and grow into a broader hybrid finance role over time—including FP&A exposure, financial modeling, and supporting key strategic decisions.
What You’ll Do
Lead daily accounting operations with a high degree of accuracy, accountability, and speed
Drive a disciplined, efficient month-end close—including schedules, reconciliations, journal entries, and monthly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
Champion system modernization:
Evaluate, select, and implement a new ERP as we scale beyond QuickBooks
Identify automation opportunities across accounting workflows
Build the foundation for a more efficient, tech-enabled finance function
Own key areas of accounting: revenue recognition & management, cost of sales, AP, cash management, debt accounts, and payroll oversight
Prepare monthly reporting packages, tie-outs, and analytical schedules for management and investors
Conduct technical accounting research and ensure GAAP compliance
Support audit preparation, tax processes, and regulatory reporting
Collaborate cross-functionally to improve processes, eliminate manual work, and clarify deliverables & dependencies
Produce ad-hoc analyses that inform business performance and strategic decisions
Support FP&A activities when time allows (forecasting, modeling, budgeting)
Ability to be in the weeds and details while also able to be high level
You’re a Great Fit If You Have:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; MBA a plus
10+ years of audit/public accounting or blended accounting experience
CPA required
Strong GAAP knowledge and technical accounting capabilities
Experience in fintech accounting, lending/payments reconciliation, and transaction-based or usage-based business models
Hands-on QuickBooks experience (and ideally prior ERP implementation or migration experience)
A mindset focused on systems, automation, and continuous improvement
Exceptional communication, rigorous attention to detail, high integrity, and dependability
Experience leading accounting teams or third-party providers
Interest in expanding beyond accounting into FP&A and financial modeling, as well as contributing to financial decision-making
Strong Excel/Google Sheets experience, including an intermediate level or above of formulas
You’re an All-Star Fit If You Have:
Prior experience implementing a new ERP or standing up a scaled finance tech stack
Documented process improvement success
Experience creating policies, procedures, and scalable accounting frameworks
Experience with big data environments
FP&A or modeling experience
Tax experience
