Position Summary:
The Healthcare Bylaws & Peer Review Consultant provides subject matter expertise in medical staff governance, bylaws development, and peer review processes. This role partners with hospitals, health systems, and medical staffs to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and best practices in clinical quality and physician performance management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise healthcare organizations on the development, revision, and implementation of medical staff bylaws, rules, regulations, and policies

  • Assess and optimize peer review processes, including case review workflows, committee structures, and documentation standards

  • Ensure alignment with regulatory and accreditation requirements (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS, NCQA, state regulations)

  • Support the design and implementation of fair, defensible physician performance evaluation systems

  • Facilitate medical staff committees (e.g., MEC, Peer Review, Credentials) and provide governance guidance

  • Conduct bylaws and peer review audits to identify gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities

  • Provide guidance on due process, corrective action, and hearing procedures

  • Collaborate with legal counsel and executive leadership on sensitive physician matters

  • Develop training materials and deliver education to medical staff leaders and administrators

  • Stay current on industry trends, regulatory updates, and emerging best practices

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree (e.g., MHA, MPH, JD, MBA) preferred

  • 5+ years of experience in medical staff services, peer review, healthcare consulting, or hospital administration

  • Strong knowledge of medical staff bylaws, credentialing, privileging, and peer review frameworks

  • Familiarity with accreditation and regulatory standards (Joint Commission, CMS Conditions of Participation, etc.)

  • Experience working with physician leadership and hospital executives

  • Excellent analytical, facilitation, and communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple client engagements and deliver high-quality work independently

Preferred Certifications:

  • Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM)

  • Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS)

  • Juris Doctor (JD) (for roles involving legal/regulatory interpretation)

Salary range: $105,000-$145,000, plus may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. The salary range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skills, experience, training, licensure and certifications, practice area, and other business and organizational needs.
