The Staff member in the Business Tax Services - Exempt Organization team will provide tax guidance and planning for tax-exempt organizations, helping them maintain their tax-exempt status and advising on compliance with domestic tax laws.
Responsibilities
- Delivering tax planning and advice for a variety of business structures
- Identifying and managing tax exposures and risks
- Representing clients in tax controversies and audit investigations
- Providing clients with tax guidance and planning related to protecting tax‑exempt status, preparing and reviewing tax returns for exempt organizations and their taxable affiliates (990s/1120s/1065s and related filings, including international filings), and supporting IRS audit defense strategies
- Contributing to the delivery of processes, solutions, and projects by researching and presenting relevant information to inform recommendations
- Being accountable for own work, meeting required targets that impact immediate team, and supporting client service, quality, risk management, and business growth
- Defining and executing deliverables, engaging in live interactions with project teams and clients
- Applying discretion using general guidelines to interpret unusual circumstances and procedures
- Working on problems of moderate to diverse scope where analysis of data is required
Skills
- Bachelor's degree required (4-year degree) supported by significant tax or legal experience
- MST, MAcc, JD/LLM preferred
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or active state bar membership or progress toward certification
- Understanding and experience with tax-exempt and non-profit taxation
- Strong analytical skills, interpersonal, and written/verbal communication skills; problem-solving ability and attention to detail
- 0 - 2 years of relevant experience in professional tax organization, law firm, or IRS
- Experience in large tax-exempt organization tax compliance/consulting in either professional tax firm, IRS or law firm
- Experience in client-facing roles
- Familiarity with domestic tax laws and regulations
- Ability to work collaboratively in hybrid environments
- Strong commercial acumen and learning agility
