Faculty support students through a unique medical education pathway: foundational studies in Barbados, followed by clinical training at affiliated teaching hospitals across the United States. Teaching is the primary focus, with year-round engagement across three academic semesters and opportunities to contribute to medical education research.
Position Overview
This role is part of the Academy for Teaching and Learning, working closely with faculty and medical students—including those needing additional academic support. You will collaborate within a faculty team to enhance learning, strengthen academic performance, and advance teaching practices in medical education.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver small group and one-on-one academic support focused on strengthening academic literacy and medical discourse
Conduct diagnostic assessments and interviews to identify student learning strengths and areas for development
Develop and implement study strategies and test-taking approaches tailored to medical education
Facilitate small group sessions focused on course content and multiple-choice question analysis
Use inquiry-based learning, questioning techniques, and dialogue to build critical reasoning skills
Collaborate with faculty to develop and refine teaching and learning materials
Design and deliver faculty development workshops on teaching and assessment practices
Partner with faculty across basic sciences and clinical departments
Work closely with student affairs and counseling teams to support student success
Evaluate written student work aligned with medical and clinical competencies
Train high-performing students to serve as peer tutors
Facilitate Problem-Based Learning (PBL) sessions for the broader student population
Contribute to medical education research, including proposals and publications
Complete additional duties as assigned and adhere to all institutional policies and standards

Qualifications

Required
MD or PhD in Education
Experience working with students in undergraduate medical education
Experience teaching in small group settings, including students and/or faculty
Strong foundation in critical thinking, logic, and analytical reasoning
Understanding of learning theory and educational psychology
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Ability to collaborate effectively within a team-based environment
Commitment to continuous professional growth
Preferred
Prior teaching experience at a North American or UK medical school
Experience with postsecondary or medical education teaching methods and tools
Demonstrated success in research, abstract presentations, and peer-reviewed publications
Experience using educational technology (e.g., LMS platforms, online exams, audience response systems, videoconferencing)
Evidence of teaching effectiveness and active learning methods
Participation in faculty development initiatives
Ability to design, execute, and present medical education research projects

Additional Information

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $90,000 and $115,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
