About the role:
Accompany Health Med-Psych Associate Medical Directors (AMDs) are key clinical leaders supporting patients and care teams across our Standard and Complex Care models. You will work with health advocates, physicians, nurses, behavioral health clinicians, and pharmacists to deliver coordinated, whole-person care for patients with complex medical, behavioral, and social needs.
As a Med-Psych AMD, you will clinically supervise Med-Psych and Psych APCs and their care pods in partnership with APC Managers, the National Director of Integrated Behavioral Health, and BH Managers. You will also provide virtual mental and physical health care via video, phone, and text.
In the Standard Model, you will lead integrated behavioral health services for patients with mild to moderate mental health and substance use needs, using the evidence-based Collaborative Care Model. You will act as the psychiatric consultant, supported by Med-Psych APCs and behavioral health clinicians, and collaborate with primary care and APCs to deliver patient-centered, measurement-based, treatment-to-target care. You will also supervise med-psychiatric APCs providing e-consults for diagnostic clarity and medication management.
In the High-Risk Advanced Behavioral Health Model, you will provide direct and consultative care for a small panel of patients with serious mental illness and/or severe substance use disorders. You will supervise and support Med-Psychiatric APCs delivering both primary medical and behavioral health care, ensuring multidisciplinary care plans that reduce avoidable utilization and increase patients’ healthy days at home.

Responsibilities will include:
Clinical Supervision and Oversight for Collaborative Care and Bridge Care Programs
Serve as the psychiatric consultant for Psych APCs and Behavioral Health Clinicians (LCSWs/LPCs) within the Collaborative Care and Bridge Care models, including clinical supervision and participation in BH Case ConferencesProvide psychiatric diagnostic evaluations for select BH referralsOversee evidence-based medication management for a full range of DSM-5 conditions, including prescribing controlled substances per the Collaborative Practice AgreementPartner with the BH Manager and psychiatric APCs to ensure effective panel management, timely follow-ups, treatment-to-target adjustments, and safe program graduationSupport urgent behavioral health triage as neededEnsure timely, accurate documentation and coordinate with external PCPs and psychiatrists to align treatment plans
Clinical Supervision and Oversight for High-Risk Advanced Behavioral Health Program
Conduct in-depth chart reviews and data analysis to ensure: Appropriate clinical care plans addressing root causes of avoidable IP/ED utilization and total cost of careAccurate diagnosis, coding, and evidence-based treatment aligned with AH guidelinesCompletion of preventive care and closure of HEDIS quality gaps through orders, outreach, and patient educationRegularly review high-risk patients and recent IP/ED utilizers to optimize care plans and reduce avoidable utilizationEnsure creation and maintenance of Complex Care Plans for highest-needs patients in partnership with BH leadershipReview daily escalations from Med-Psych APCs and APC Managers regarding urgent clinical concerns, diagnoses, and quality gapsCollaborate with external psychiatrists, PCPs, specialists, and inpatient teams to maintain aligned, patient-centered care plansIdentify improvement opportunities and coach Med-Psych APCs on clinical care and panel management through observation, documentation review, and huddlesPartner with APC Managers on hiring, onboarding, and ongoing training of clinical team membersContribute to educational content development and strengthen relationships/workflows with network providers and community partners
Clinical Care and Delivery
Provide direct medical and psychiatric care for patients in the Bridge and Advanced Behavioral Health programsDeliver indirect care through BH Case Conferences and treatment recommendations to APCsProvide visit coverage for APCs as neededFor completed visits, ensure appropriate ordering and follow-up of labs/imaging, and maintain timely, accurate documentation across EMR and internal platformsParticipate in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule, including weekends and holidays

MD or DO in Psychiatry with dual Board Certification in Psychiatry and Internal Medicine / Family Medicine Fellowship in consult liaison Psychiatry a plusFellowship/additional training or experience in addiction medicine a plusComfort and experience in managing both psychiatric and medical needs for patientsActive Medical License in state of employment and willingness to obtain additional licensure as requestedExperience building and leading multi-disciplinary teams, supervising clinical team members, and have held leadership and/or administrative roles in clinical organizations or other innovative care modelsExperience with change management and process improvement theory, techniques and practical applicationExperience using a metrics-driven approach to analyze cost, quality, and satisfaction data to drive clinical strategy and program redesignComfort with working in an electronic medical recordValid unrestricted driver's license and access to an insured vehicle for daily use
Preferred
