What You'll Do
As a Senior Data Engineer, you'll be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining our enterprise data infrastructure. This role requires a unique blend of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and collaborative skills. Here's what you can expect in this position:
- Data Solution Architecture: Work closely with source data application teams and product owners to design, implement, and support analytics solutions that provide actionable insights for better business decisions. You'll translate complex business requirements into elegant technical solutions.
- Cloud Data Engineering: Implement data migration and data engineering solutions using Azure products and services, including Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Data Factory, Azure Functions, Event Center, Stream Analytics, Azure Databricks, and more. You'll leverage both modern cloud-native tools and traditional data warehouse technologies.
- Full Stack Development: Perform various aspects of the development lifecycle – from planning and cloud engineering (infrastructure, networking, security, and governance) to ingestion, deployment, data modeling, testing, CI/CD pipelines, performance tuning, releases, usage, BI, alerting, and support maintenance.
- Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership within a team environment while also having the ability to work independently. You'll mentor junior team members and contribute to our collective technical excellence.
- DevOps Ownership: Be part of a DevOps team that completely owns and supports their product. You'll be responsible for the entire lifecycle of your data solutions, from initial concept to ongoing production support.
- Pipeline Development: Implement batch and streaming data pipelines using cutting-edge cloud technologies that process data at scale and in real-time.
- Best Practices: Drive improvement of coding standards, best practices, and compliance and security guidelines. You'll help establish and enforce technical standards that ensure quality and consistency across all data solutions.
- Knowledge Sharing: Coach others on technical and domain skills to create cross-functional teams. You'll contribute to our culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing.
What You'll Need for Success
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training.
- Experience: 3+ years of programming solution development using agile, DevOps, working in a product model that includes designing, developing, and implementing large-scale applications or data engineering solutions.
- Data Analysis: 3+ years of data analysis experience using SQL, with the ability to write complex queries and optimize database performance.
- Cloud Expertise: 2+ years of cloud development and data lake experience (Microsoft Azure preferred), including Azure EventHub, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure DevOps, Azure Blob Storage, Azure Data Lake, Azure Power Applications, and Power BI.
- Technical Proficiency: A combination of Development, Deployment, and Support experience in several of the following tools/platforms:
- Scripting: Python, Scala, Unix, SQL
- Data Platforms: Teradata, Cassandra, MongoDB, Oracle, SQL Server, ADLS, Snowflake
- Azure Technologies: Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure Blob Storage, Azure Data Lake, Azure Power Applications, Azure Functions
- CI/CD: GitHub, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Terraform
- BI Tools: Cognos, Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, Denodo, and Grafana
- Data Warehousing: DataStage, Informatica
- Data Governance: Informatica Axon and EDC, BigID
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years programming solution development using agile, DevOps, product model that includes designing, developing, and implementing large-scale applications or data engineering solutions.
- 5+ years data analysis experience using SQL
- 3+ years full-stack development experience, preferably in Azure
- 3+ years of cloud development and data lake experience (Microsoft Azure preferred) including Azure EventHub, Azure Data Factory, Azure Functions, ADX, ASA, Azure Databricks, Azure DevOps, Azure Blob Storage, Azure Data Lake, Azure Power Applications, and Power BI.
- Industry experience in our sector is a plus
Skills, Certifications, and Competencies
- Expertise with the Azure Technology stack for data management, data ingestion, capture, processing, curation, and creating usage layers.
- Expertise in providing functional direction within Azure cloud services.
- Azure Development Track Certification (preferred)
- Scala Certification (preferred)
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to troubleshoot complex data issues
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
