The Manager, EHS (Standards) will report directly to the Director, EHS (Standardization and Compliance). This leadership position is responsible for overseeing the development and execution of documented EHS programs. The programs are designed to assist EHS and operations personnel to perform, manage, mitigate, and whenever possible eliminate risk to Rivian employees, facilities, products, and the communities in which the company operates. This role serves as the primary owner of Rivian's document control system and the EHS library for internal global enterprise use. The ideal candidate is customer-centric, self-directed, organized, and a collaborative leader who can problem solve, foster trust, and build consensus and followership across global business units. Excellent communication, analytical and sound judgment skills would benefit this position greatly as this person will have to influence others and work in a fast-paced, multi-cultural, and team-oriented cross-functional environment—all while keeping a positive attitude.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop and administer Rivian’s EHS Standards program. Assist with the design and implementation of global programs with ISO 45001 and 14001 standards in mind.
• Think creatively to define requirements, identify best practices, and author and edit enterprise programs.
• Based on the results of gap analysis for ISO standards, plan and develop and implement new EHS policies, programs, and procedures as needed.
• Serve as the EHS subject matter expert for program development, including being the single point of contact for EHS’ internal IT tool for document control (Together) and the EHS library.
• Assist in planning the scope of the EHS Management system, planning environmental, health, and safety objectives and conducting operational planning to achieve them. Assist with the strategy development for program implementation and evaluation its effectiveness to drive EHS performance improvement.
• Partner with the EHS IT Data Platforms Manager to monitor, measure, analyze and evaluate performance and evaluate compliance against key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Develop an enterprise-wide internal EHS audit program to identify nonconformity and corrective actions and drive continuous improvement.
• Develop and maintain familiarity in all EHS platforms and systems. Partners with the EHS IT Data Platforms Manager to oversee the acquisition, development, blueprinting, testing, updating, and deployment of the EHS Document Control System and associated processes and programs. Works with Rivian Digital Workplace IT team members and, as needed, third-party vendors to develop Statements of Work and price quotes for system enhancements. Advises EHS leadership on system budgetary matters.
• Be available within reason 24/7 for consultation during emergency system issues and outages.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Strong technical writer with excellent ability to write clearly, concisely, and grammatically correct. Experience developing style guides. Proven ability to comprehend abstract and complex concepts and translate them to concrete, simple, user-friendly documents.
• Preferred 4 plus years of experience in environment, health, safety, and/or OSHA compliance.
• Preferred 4 plus years of experience in authoring standard policies and procedures with strong ability to build consensus amongst stakeholders in a timely manner in topic such as: air, water, waste, chemicals, occupational health, safety (electrical, confined space, energy, manufacturing).
• Proven ability to work non-traditional hours when needed to support global operations.
• Ability to multi-task multiple projects often with short timelines.
• Proficient skills in Microsoft SharePoint, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Smart Sheets, EHS Management Systems, and other business applications.
• Must be able to travel 20% both domestically and internationally.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint. Prefer SAP & Benchmark ESG (formerly Gensuite) knowledge
• Technical writer certifications, a plus.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's Degree in Science, Engineering, Public Health, or related field is preferred or demonstrated prior work experience relevant to this position.
• A minimum of 4 years' experience of demonstrated practical experience in implementing an EHS Management System for a facility is required. Preferred experience in implementing and auditing to ISO 14001 and 45001 standards.
