These dynamic roles reflect UW-Stout’s mission as Wisconsin’s Polytechnic University, advancing applied learning, workforce readiness, and innovation through next-generation educational technologies. Both positions report to the University Library Director, or designated supervisor within the library, and join a creative, collegial team working at the intersection of digital pedagogy, open resources, and emerging technologies. Open Innovation & Engagement Librarian Official UW Title/Job Description Salary: $46,200-$53,000 based on experience and available budget, with benefits FTE: .92 Open Innovation & Engagement Librarian The Open Innovation and Engagement Librarian champions the creation, adoption, and evolution of open educational resources (OER) that support high-impact learning experiences aligned with UW-Stout’s mission as Wisconsin’s Polytechnic University. This role supports faculty in developing affordable, accessible, and engaging learning materials. The position amplifies the use of digital learning tools through course-integrated instruction; embeds OER into polytechnic pathways, including workforce-ready credentials; and enhances the library’s outreach. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum / Required Master’s degree in library and information science (MLIS/MLS) from an ALA-accredited program, master’s in education, master’s in instructional design, master’s in data science, or master’s in a related field. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to simplify technical concepts for non-technical audiences. Demonstrated experience with academic research support, digital literacy, and instruction. Experience with AI platforms and tools for education, including generative AI, language models, and prompt engineering. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with all constituencies of the University. Demonstrated ability and commitment to stay current with emerging technologies Highly Desired Understanding of copyright, intellectual property, and ethical issues related to OER and AI-generated content. Expertise of AI ethics, including privacy, surveillance, and algorithmic bias. Ability to design accessible learning experiences using emerging technologies. Strong project management skills POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES Open Innovation and Engagement Supports faculty and instructors in the discovery, creation, dissemination, identification, accessibility and adoption of engaging open materials, including AI-assisted textbooks, simulations, and datasets. Supports the expansion of multimodal instruction by working with faculty during the course design phase to identify digital resources and OERs that enhance the online learning experience of students. Develops and coordinates initiatives and services designed to support finding, assessing, using, and creating OERs in collaboration with colleagues. Champions the creation, adoption, and evolution of next-gen OER—such as AI-generated, mixed-reality, and holographic learning objects—ensuring accessibility, and industry relevance. Embeds open resources into polytechnic pathways including badging, micro credentials, and stackable learning for industry skills.
