Position SummaryPrometheus Federal Services (PFS) is a trusted partner to federal health agencies. We are exploring the addition of an experienced Healthcare Communication Consultant to support external communication efforts for a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) client. This role supports the planning and execution of high-visibility, enterprise-level communication initiatives that accompany complex organizational change.
The Healthcare Communication Consultant serves as a trusted advisor to federal clients, translating program objectives into clear, compelling, and measurable communication strategies. The role requires close collaboration with government stakeholders, cross-functional delivery teams, and senior leadership to develop communication that builds awareness, understanding, and support among diverse stakeholder groups. This role blends strategic communication planning with hands-on development of high-quality deliverables across multiple channels. This position is for future openings; all candidates must reside in the United States.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesStrategic Communication Planning & Advisory
- Develop and execute comprehensive external communication strategies aligned with federal agency transformation initiatives and organizational priorities
- Serve as a trusted advisor to federal clients, providing strategic guidance in support of enterprise-level change efforts
- Translate complex program objectives into clear, audience-appropriate messaging that supports awareness, understanding, and stakeholder buy-in
Content Development & Delivery
- Author, review, and deliver high-quality communication products, including press releases, blogs, talking points, executive messages, website content, video scripts, and social media toolkits
- Ensure consistent quality, accuracy, and professionalism across all written and visual communications deliverables
- Produce executive-ready materials, including PowerPoint briefings and written communications for senior leaders
Stakeholder Engagement & Client Support
- Collaborate closely with federal stakeholders and cross-functional delivery teams to support communication execution
- Develop stakeholder engagement plans tailored to diverse audiences with varying priorities and interests
- Maintain strong client relationships while driving responsive, high-quality service
Performance Measurement & Continuous Improvement
- Measure the effectiveness of communications strategies using analytics, performance indicators, and qualitative feedback
- Adjust messaging, delivery methods, and tactics based on performance outcomes and evolving client needs
- Apply insight from metrics to improve campaign effectiveness and stakeholder engagement
Delivery Execution & Professional Standards
- Manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality products under tight deadlines in a fast-paced consulting environment
- Work independently and collaboratively within a large delivery team
- Exercise discretion and sound judgment when managing sensitive or high-visibility communication topics
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in communication, journalism, public affairs, or related field required
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience delivering strategic communication support within federal government and/or management consulting environments
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing complex external communication plans for federal or public-sector clients
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with the ability to translate complex topics into clear, audience-appropriate messaging
- Experience developing executive-level talking points, speeches, blogs, and social media content
- Knowledge of strategic communication, stakeholder engagement, and public relations best practices
- Proficiency with content publishing platforms and social media channels, including LinkedIn, X, Facebook, and related tools
- Strong organization skills with proven ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities, and maintain attention to detail
- Ability to quickly develop subject matter familiarity across complex, evolving program areas
- Excellent verbal communication skills and comfort interacting with senior leaders and client stakeholders
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), including executive-read deck development
- Ability to work in the U.S. indefinitely without sponsorship
- Ability to obtain a public trust
Preferred Qualifications- Master's degree in communication, journalism, public affairs, or related field
- Prior experience supporting communication initiatives for federal government agencies, including the VA/VHA
