Position Overview
As a Customer Service & Sales Associate at arenaflex, you will be the face of our store, representing our brand and values with every customer interaction. Your primary mission is to deliver fast, friendly, and knowledgeable service by actively seeking out customers to assess their needs and provide tailored assistance. You will become an expert in our product offerings, learning to use our innovative tools and resources to help customers find exactly what they need. Beyond simply helping customers locate products, you will guide them through the entire purchasing journey—from initial consultation to project completion—ensuring they feel confident and satisfied with their decisions.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to develop a broad skill set across multiple departments, including Building Materials, Décor, Electrical, Flooring, Garden, Hardware, Kitchen & Bath, Lumber, Millwork, Paint, Plumbing, and Tool Rental. Whether you are assisting a first-time homeowner with their first renovation project or a seasoned contractor ordering supplies for a major build, you will play a pivotal role in turning visions into reality.
Key Responsibilities
As a Customer Service & Sales Associate at arenaflex, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Customer Engagement: Greet every customer with warmth and professionalism, actively seeking opportunities to assist and assess their needs through conversation and active listening.
- Product Expertise: Learn and utilize arenaflex's tools, resources, and product knowledge to provide accurate information and recommendations tailored to each customer's unique project requirements.
- Sales Development: Guide customers through the entire sales process, including qualifying their needs, recommending appropriate products and solutions, and closing sales effectively.
- Project Support: Assist customers in planning and executing entire projects by suggesting complementary products, providing material lists, and offering expert advice on installation and application.
- Department Maintenance: Maintain the in-stock condition of your assigned areas, ensuring shelves are properly stocked, organized, clean, shoppable, and safe for customers and associates.
- Store Safety: Adhere to all safety policies and standards, complete required safety training, immediately correct hazards or unsafe conditions, and report concerns to the Manager on Duty promptly.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Work cooperatively with your Department Supervisor and other associates within your department as well as neighboring departments to ensure seamless customer service and operational efficiency.
- Cashiering & Transactions: Handle basic transactions and point-of-sale operations as needed, ensuring accuracy and excellent customer service at every step.
- Inventory Management: Assist with receiving shipments, processing freight, and maintaining accurate inventory counts to ensure product availability.
- Continuous Learning: Stay current on new products, industry trends, and best practices through ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
Essential Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who possess the following qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education or vocational training in related fields (business, marketing, trades, or design) is a plus.
- Customer Service Experience: Prior experience in retail, hospitality, or customer-facing roles is strongly preferred; however, we welcome enthusiastic candidates who are eager to learn and grow.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage customers in friendly, approachable conversations and provide clear, accurate information.
- Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to quickly understand customer needs and recommend effective solutions.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, walk throughout the store, lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 pounds), bend, kneel, and operate equipment safely.
- Availability: Willingness to work flexible schedules, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, based on business needs.
- Tech Savvy: Basic proficiency with computers, tablets, and point-of-sale systems; comfort learning new technology and software platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications will give you a competitive edge:
- Previous experience in a home improvement, building materials, or specialty retail environment.
- Knowledge of tools, building materials, or home improvement products, including familiarity with brands and applications.
- Experience in inside sales, lead generation, or account management roles.
- Familiarity with measuring, estimating, and calculating material quantities for projects.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and OSHA standards in retail or construction settings.
- Bilingual language skills (Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, or other languages) are highly valued in many of our locations.
