Who you are  

You are a hands-on accounting leader with strong experience in accrual-based accounting and financial reporting. You are comfortable managing and supporting an accounting team, reviewing financials at month end, and ensuring the accuracy of the company’s financial statements. You are someone the team can rely on for guidance, able to answer questions, troubleshoot issues, and help establish processes when new situations arise. You are highly organized, self-motivated, and able to manage priorities in a remote environment. 

 

Candidates must reside in and be authorized to work in the U.S., excluding the following states: California, New York, or Washington. 

 

Qualifications  

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field 
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience 
• Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), accrual-based accounting, and financial reporting 
• Proven experience leading and mentoring accounting teams 
• Experience with NetSuite 
• Experience managing the monthly close process and financial statement review 
• Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and data manipulation 
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities 
• Ability to work effectively in a remote environment 
• CPA preferred but not required 

 

A day in the life 

As the Controller, you will oversee the day-to-day accounting operations and ensure the accuracy of financial reporting. You will manage the accounting team, lead the monthly close process, and partner closely with the CFO to maintain strong financial processes and controls. 

Responsibilities include:  

• Oversee the monthly close process and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting 
• Review and approve journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations 
• Ensure the accuracy of financial statements and supporting schedules 
• Maintain and oversee revenue recognition processes and ensure revenue flows properly through financial reporting systems 
• Manage and mentor members of the accounting team, providing guidance and support 
• Manage and review accounts receivable and accounts payable activities 
• Oversee prepaid schedules, accruals, and other key balance sheet accounts 
• Support the preparation of financial documentation for tax filings and potential audits 
• Serve as the primary accounting lead during audit preparation and financial reviews 
• Develop and improve accounting processes, procedures, and internal controls 
• Serve as the primary escalation point for accounting questions and financial issues 
• Partner with the CFO to support financial reporting and operational insights 
• Other duties as assigned
